On the advice of my very good friend & travelling companion on the Yangtze River cruise, it was back to the Doctor today to dose up on Dukoral, which is a lovely little drink you can take on an empty stomach to shield against all water based bugs in third world countries. One dose today and another dose next week.

I have started to ask questions, and I am being quite challenged on it this week as to WHO DO WE TRUST for divine health? Are all these injections and preventative medicines really necessary?

Given that my love has had recent heart surgery, there are certain medications which the Doctors say he must take. OR HE COULD DIE. Isn’t that speaking FEAR into our life right there?

What would Jesus say about this? His word in 2 Peter 1:3a (The Passion Translation) says ‘Everything we could ever need for life and complete devotion to God has already been deposited in us by his divine power; (verse 4) As a result of this, he has given you magnificent promises that are beyond all price, so that through the power of these tremendous promises you can experience partnership with the divine nature, by which you have escaped the corrupt desires that are of the world’.

I’m sure when the world was first created, God’s original intent was not to have pharmaceutical companies ruling our health system. You just have to sit in the Doctor’s waiting room and look at all the posters claiming freedom from pain, freedom from anxiety, freedom from cervical cancer, FREE products…to lure us into a false security of ‘better health’. And the list of preventative medicines that we could take while we travel to stop diarrhea, vomiting, being bitten by a dog, hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, cholera, typhoid …and the list goes on, all look very pretty on colour coded charts on the Doctor’s Surgery wall. Every disease under the sun that we could contract is listed when all we want is a stress free & relaxing holiday. It actually gets really depressing. And we buy in to it because we are fearful that one of these diseases might just happen to us.

Alternatively we could get hit by a train. And then I would get in to the debate of did my travel insurance cover me for this? Or I could lose my wallet, or get pick pocketed by a hungry little urchin so that I have no spending money. Or our house could be broken in to while we are away. Or there could be a terrorist attack.(God knows there have been enough of them lately) So many of the decisions we make before we travel are based on ‘what ifs’, and whether we have covered ourselves in case X happens. It seems to me that we are letting fear rule. Instead of TRUSTING and believing that we are being sent on a mission, and that God will take care of all of those things which could bring anxiety or fear. He wants us to look to HIM for our security. He wants us to look to HIM for divine health. He wants us to involve Him in our decision making as to whether we need to take all these pills and medications and vitamins especially on holiday when weight in bags might be an issue. So often we leave Him out of the equation completely and take what we really don’t need ‘just-in-case’.

I must say that I have been so blessed with great health and I have little to complain about in that department. I know that God gave us doctors and nurses and a medical system, and hospitals and specialists and there are many, many people who need these things on a daily basis. I also believe that God gave us free will, and a brain and that we need wise counsel when we make decisions about the pills we pop in our mouths. I don’t think twice about taking a Panadol for a headache. Well I didn’t used to. But I am becoming more conscious of those things which I have always taken for granted, and I don’t want to keep putting anything in to my body which the Lord hasn’t prescribed for me.

And so, my little rant for today is simply to challenge myself, and hopefully get you thinking about all the supplements and vitamins that we take and whether I have actually checked in to see if it’s really necessary.

Needless to say, I think I will be packing my favourite BePure One and BePure Three supplements as I believe they are the best around for general well being. I’m going to miss my home brew of Kombucha tea while we are away which is excellent for gut health, but I will take my iron pills since the Doc says I should. And I will be packing my favourite essential oils … Thieves, Grapefruit, Valor, Geranium, Humility, Frankincence and Clarity are my favourites at the moment. With requests from my son in China for chocolate and fish oil tablets, I’m sure we can make room for a few treats if I just cut back on how many clothes I need …
