Hello Lovely Ladies
I have been holding off sending out the August newsletter until we have confirmation that we at last have a MOVING date! It may make things a little messy for the next couple of weeks as we prepare for the shift, and I will need to re schedule a couple of weekend workshops to free up some time, but we hope there will be minimum disruption to our regular classes. We anticipate our final day of trading at 500A Miller Street will be Saturday 2nd September, and we will reopen at 410 Avenue Rd East On Tuesday 5th September. All our signage will hopefully be completed by then, and addresses changed where they need to. Please bear with us during this period as we transition in to our new premises.
David is expecting this will be the last week of painting for him down the road… progress has been steady yet slow, but now that we have a moving date it will help to get all the jobs completed to a deadline.

Please be aware that even though our new address is 410 Avenue Rd East, all our off street parking means you will need to drive in the gate which comes off the MILLER ST entrance. We realise this may be a bit confusing at first, so we plan to have great signage directing you where to go. We encourage you to drive right in and use the new parking space which has been created for our customers only, rather than competing with New World and other businesses parking on the road side. Just look for the white picket fence which surrounds all of our new premises. It is literally 2 blocks away from where we are currently.

We are enjoying planning our new space and we are looking forward to the arrival of some new product towards the end of the year, including the first small shipment of dressmaking fabric. Thanks to those of you who have discovered our new wool felt collection and also to those of you telling your friends about our fantastic range of BUTTONS! Every purchase, no matter how big or small, supports small local business – and we do so appreciate your support.

QUILTING WITH RULERS WORKSHOP
Ruler Class now Saturday 16th September 10am – 3pm

This workshop was due to take place last Saturday 19th August. To relieve some pressure, the class was postponed and will now be held on Saturday 16th SEPTEMBER instead from 10am – 3pm. There are still a couple of spaces available and perhaps with a date change you may now be able to attend!

Before you attend you will need to make a 9 patch table runner. I will provide the pattern for this when you register for the class. I have a selection of Bernina and Amanda Murphy rulers for you to try, or you are welcome to bring your own rulers if you have them. I know of many ladies who have purchased Westerlee rulers on a whim at Craft Shows and have no idea how to use them when they get home!

Ruler kits will be available for purchase after the class. You will need to ensure you have the correct Ruler Foot for your sewing machine. The Bernina Ruler foot is #72 and Bernina machines are high shank. If your sewing machine is another brand, you need to make sure you have the right foot for your machine as it could well be a low shank.
The Ruler class will cost $40 + your fabric requirements.

LODESTAR TREE TOPPER
CLASS DATE CHANGED to Saturday 30th September

The ‘Lodestar’ is a pattern from Larissa Holland of mmmcrafts. It is a lovely big felt star handstitched with some sequin embellishments. I am using some of the new metallic felt which has just arrived in store, as well as some merino wool felt. This class was to be held on Saturday 9th September but will now be held on Saturday 30th September instead.
Class numbers will be limited to 8, so if you are keen to adorn your tree this year with a fabulous piece of stitchery, sign up today. The felt and templates are available now if you want to get a head start and get your pieces cut out.
Class will cost $45 + your fabric requirements.

There has been quite a bit of interest in Larissa Holland’s patterns.
The ”12 Days of Christmas” based on A Partridge in a Pear Tree, was a BOM class I held in Taupo several years ago and it was a great success. Some of our new customers have been admiring my ornaments, so I am looking for interest in creating a new class to make the ornaments here in Hastings.

If you register for this, you will pay for one pattern each month for 12 months ($20 per printed pattern). You purchase your own felt and threads. If you would like to come and stitch with us on Tuesday mornings from 10am -12.30, you can make these decorations your focus, starting in September. You may have a couple of decorations to hang on the tree this year, but by Christmas 2024, your tree will look spectacular!

BABY BLOOMS CUSHION by Wendy Williams

Stitching with wool felt is proving to be very popular at the moment!
Pictured is a cushion cover by Wendy Williams from ‘Flying Fish’. Hand stitching felt on to fabric is a fun way to create lovely patterns and is a great way to learn how to make new stitches as well.
We have started Thursday afternoon Felt & Stitch classes this term and we are making this cushion cover.
You will need to buy the pattern and choose your own felt colours to start your project. The class will run for all of Term 3 and will cost $5 each time you attend. You will learn how to create new stitches each week, so by the time you finish the term, you will have a lovely cushion to display AND you may be ready to embark on other felt stitching projects.

There is still room around the table for more stitchers – if you are interested please let me know in store.
This class runs from 1:30 – 3:30pm every THURSDAY this term.

BERNINA Q16 QUILTING MACHINE FOR SALE

We have had our Q16 quilting machine in store for the past 2 years. It hasn’t been used as much as I would like as I always seem to find other tasks to do, so we have made the decision to sell it.
New Q16’s are on the market for $12,000. We are selling ours for $8000, and we would really like to see it go to a new home before we move to the new shop!
Our Q16 has been fully serviced and the warranty will remain valid. If you are interested in purchasing your own quilting machine for home use, come and have a trial run in the shop before we pack it into a box!

CIRCULAR FLOWERS CLASS
WITH BARRIE ASHTON

Barrie has booked her flights for the weekend of 17-19 November and will be our guest tutor at a workshop where you will learn all about how to use different techniques on your sewing machine using different feet that you don’t know what to do with! If you have the circular attachment for your machine (any brand) you can embellish your flowers using this foot. You can also experiment with pintucks, couching and cording feet.
Barrie is our Wonderfil supplier, so you will have access to lots of different threads in this class. You will make a sampler (table mat size) in the workshop which will look similar to the photo below. Choose your own fabrics and colours.
The workshop will be held on Saturday 18th November from 9:30- 3:30pm.
The class fee will be $65 + fabric/threads. A full list of requirements is available when you register.

CHRISTMAS PROJECTS

A few Christmas fabrics have arrived this week. If you would like to freshen up your Christmas table decorations before we enter the silly season, now is a good time to get a date in the calendar to make what you need.

We will hold 2 classes to make a French Braided table runner. Saturday 11th November, and Saturday 9th December. The table runner looks great as a Christmas feature, or you may just want to jazz up your table with an all year round table runner in other lovely fabrics.
