We are very excited to welcome Amanda Murphy to New Zealand in September. We are hosting three lectures and one workshop while she is here, more details on that below, but first, let us introduce you.
Amanda is a person of many talents, a quilt and fabric designer whose style bridges the modern and traditional. She is a BERNINA Quilting and Longarm Spokesperson, an international teacher, has a popular independent pattern line and designs fabric collections for Contempo of Benartex Fabrics and embroidery collections for OESD. She has authored several books for C&T publishing including the best-selling Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book and the new Rulerwork Quilting Idea Book. Amanda enjoys every part of the quilting process, from designing fabrics to integrating piecing and appliqué techniques, to the quilting itself. But the best part of her job is seeing people use her fabrics, books, and patterns to create their own works of art!
“The perfect match
for Longarm lovers
like me”Amanda Murphy, Quilt and pattern designer
Amanda Murphy is a surface and quilt designer based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her design work incorporates shapes and patterns found in the natural world presented with a playful and modern twist. Amanda has produced numerous fabric collections, has a line of full-color patterns and a book debuting in May 2013, plus she features free patterns, ideas and inspiration at her blog.
Learn about the behind-the-scenes development of fabric lines, patterns, embroidery, and quilting collections from BERNINA Expert Amanda Murphy. You’ll learn how an idea goes from being an initial concept to its development into a myriad of products, and what to look for when shopping for fabrics and exploring different techniques in your own work. Amanda will even give a quick demo of some of her favorite quilting techniques!
Whether you are a beginning piecer or a more advanced quilter, you’ll go home with new ideas on how you can elevate your creations! There is something for everyone in this evening’s lecture!
Have you admired the work of expert quilters but don’t know where to begin when quilting your own projects?
This class demystifies the process. We’ll learn to free-motion quilt a variety of basic patterns and then create more complex designs by breaking up the design space and filling it in. Toward the end of class, students have the opportunity to bring in some unfinished quilt tops and talk with other students and the teacher about quilting options.
We always have so much fun and generate lots of ideas, you will go home invigorated and ready to finish those quilt tops!
